Reasons to invest

Strategic position in the central part of South America with 3080 km. of coast on the Pacific Ocean, makes of Peru a natural hub in the Pacific rim countries, a favorable aspect for the entry and exit of goods from and to other countries.  In 2007, the economy grew by 8.9%, the highest rate of the last twelve years within great private investment dynamism and favorable expectations on the future evolution of the economy.  In 2007, exports reached a record level of US$ 27.588 billion, recording 16.3% growth compared to the former year, after having grown about 35% for 3 consecutive years. The Government of Peru, aiming at catering for the increasing demand for public use infrastructure has been promoting concessions through Private Public Partnerships (PPP) aiming at ensuring, through a private operator, the supply of a certain public service or the use of public infrastructure respecting quality and coverage criteria.

The country’s macroeconomic potentials have been reflected in domestic and foreign investors’ interests and the participation of recent projects such as the P&O DOVER / DUBAI PORTS WORLD / UNIPORT Consortium that was awarded the contract in 2006 for the South Dock – Port of Callao Project, with a total investment commitment of US$ 617 millions. Another example is the IIRSA SUR – Peru and Brazil access road Project concession, which stretches 1 (Juan de Marcona – Urcos) and 5 (Matarani-Azangaro-Juliaca) were awarded in concession in August 2007 after the award in concession of stretch 2 (Urcos-Inambari), stretch 3 (Inambari-Iñapari) stretch 4 (Inambari-Azangaro) had been awarded in concession in 2005.  Concerning air transport, the first group of airports in Peru was awarded in concession to the Swissport – GBH Airports Consortium, made up by mixed capital companies of Swissport GBH Peru and GBH investments.
