Reasons to Invest

Dynamism in the telecommunications sector in Peru is translated into an increase in the number of fixed telephone lines. In the first semester of 2007, they grew by 7% as compared to 2006, according to the Supervisory Board for Private Investment in Telecommunications (OSIPTEL).  In Lima and Callao, fixed telephony service penetration reached 17.5 lines in service per one hundred inhabitants in the first semester of 2007. In the rest of the country, the teledensity indicator reached 9.8 per one hundred inhabitants, which represents a potential demand of fixed telephony line users. International Long Distance Telephony in global traffic grew almost 30% in the last 3 years, recording an average growth rate of around 10% per year, due to the larger number of entering companies and has been increasing since 2002. Peru has a great potential for the development of telecommunications. The Government has been working in promoting fixed telephony, mobile telephony and internet service projects. Mechanisms in favor of modernization and free competition of telecommunications in Peru are established within the sector’s legal framework and the Supervisory Board for Private Investment in Telecommunications (OSIPTEL). In August 2008 the Wide Band Implementation Project was granted nationwide to the Ameritel – CIME – Valtron Consortium  In 2007 the following projects were awarded Contracts: a) Internet access in district capitals of Peru and Fixed Local Public Telephony Services and Local Carrier services in the provinces of Lima and Callao; b) Band D and E Mobile Telecommunications Project; c) Band B Mobile Telecommunications Project. Similarly, rural wide band implementation and Rural Telecommunications Implementation Project – Rural Internet has been granted in concession.
