Reasons to invest

The high demand for infrastructure in sanitation services in many cities of Peru has made the Government promote the participation of the private sector so as to reach greater coverage with better service quality and better tariffs, while preserving the environment and looking after public health.

Private sector participation promotion in sanitation is part of sector public policies adopted by the state as from the start of the nineties.

According to the last report by the National Superintendence of Sanitation Services (SUNASS) “Potable Water and Sewerage Infrastructure in Peru” (2005), there is an investment deficit of around US$ 4 billion for the urban sector nationwide. Required investment was estimated by taking the target to reach, namely 95% of drinking water coverage, 80% sewerage and 100% waste water treatment in the urban sector nationwide.

Currently, Tumbes region has the first sanitation concession in Peru through a Public Private Partnership (PPP), while other regions have started with this process.

There also important public works tenders in the sector. To access this information please visit www.proinversion.gob.pe
